It hangs down to level with her obi, accented by her face framing bangs. Hidden underneath them is a mark in deep red--a five pointed star. Two stripes grace her cheeks in the same shade. Her eyes bear the epicanthal fold that suggest Asian descent, despite the entirely unnatural shade of yellow her irises hold. In her mouth, her canines are slightly elongated, bearing an almost vampiric point. She wears a vividly coloured jūnihitoe, or noblewoman's kimono. It is multi-layered and exquisite, embroidered and brocaded with patterns of cherry blossoms. The outermost layer is a vibrant shade of red, accenting the markings on her face. The obi she wears is the heavy maru obi, with zentsuu style patterning. The bulk of it is a vibrant cobalt, detailed with hana-guruma style flowers--colourful and beautiful. Poking out from beneath the ornate belt are two tails that elegantly sway behind her. Unless she is trying to keep them discreet, at which point she twines them about her obi. They are the same gunmetal grey as her hair, with a white tip and various tufts of silver, white, and black accenting them in nature's own camoflage pattern. Her hands are soft and uncalloused, with slightly elongated nails that form sharp claws characteristic of some types of youkai. The claws on her right hand bear a wear pattern, smooth and shiny indents in the claws suggestive of having dipped her hand into a bowl of smooth stones repeatedly each day, every day. It is hard to judge her body type through the many layers of her kimono, but her hands are delicate and her face is lean, suggesting that the woman within the silk is rather thin, if not somewhat toned. •ANCIENT HISTORY ☆ Feudal Japan is a dangerous place, of course. But five hundred years before the shattering of the Shikon no Tama, it was an even -more- dangerous time. Then, the four Taiyoukai ruled with an iron grip on the island nation. Demon hunters were unheard of, and mikos were severely limited. It was at this time that the human emperor came up with a plan, to repel the demons from the capital and the villiages, hopefully once and for all. He proposed a challenge, and invited all four of the Taiyoukai to bring their greatest champions, for it would be a one-on-one battle with the winner taking all of Japan and dominating the loser. The demons considered this well in their favour. On their arrival at the human capital with each champion in the physical sphere, the human emperor declared the challenge: a game of Go. The demons had no champions for that sort of thing. But for none to step forward would mean the humans won by default. It was the Taiyoukai of the North that stepped forward, Leiko, a kitsune. She had been interested in strategy from a young age, and Go was no more than an elegant game of planning. She faced off against the human champion, Fujiwara no Sai. And she lost. That began the lifetime of torment as she puzzled over how she could possibly have lost to one beneath her, to a human. Over the next five hundred years, she slowly grew accustomed to the idea that humans weren't beneath demons at all. Which certainly offended most of her peers and set her up for routine attacks against her. She repelled each of the attacks, and survived the criticism of the other demons. In that time, humans gradually forgot about the great battle that was won by Go. Demons returned to power, though not as drastically as they had before. And Leiko herself faded into the background, the northlands being swallowed by anarchy. As Kagome and Inuyasha set out to piece together the Shikon no Tama, Leiko sits oblivious in her tower, poring over ancient games of Go, studying, and approaching the famed Hand of God, the divine move that would allow her to truly master the game. •MODERN HISTORY ☆ Being a kitsune with a long lifespan, Leiko has been in many points of history. The above is sufficient for explaining her for games set during the Feudal era. However, in the modern world, she has some additional quirks. In this modern era, it is possible to have vast amounts of power without owning vast amounts of land. In fact, the power balance has shifted from landowners to corporation CEO's. And in keeping with the times, that is precisely what the Taiyoukai have done. Leiko herself controls the sphere of telecommunications. Although publicly she only controls Hokkyoku Studios and a few television stations, below the board she has her finger in everything concerning the industry. The other three Taiyoukai have done the same in their relative industries--banking, electricity, and healthcare. At the moment, they are content to merely hold back human development to keep them from getting out of control. But if ever the Taiyoukai decided to take on humanity, to try and recoup some of their losses? The power goes out, the internet goes off, and the banks freeze all the money. And what does the one who controls healthcare do? Not much in case of emergencies, but he has already suppressed the immunization for AIDS and the cure for cancer... •PERSONALITY ☆ Leiko can come off anywhere between nice and nasty, mostly depending on how people take her haughtiness. She doesn't talk down to people as a personal affront, but because it is a centuries old habit. If one can take her with a grain of salt, she can be a loyal friend and a powerful ally. But trying to point out that she's being condescending doesn't really get a nice reaction. Being from feudal Japan, Leiko has a heightened sense of morality and honour, which includes giving her due because of her title. Those acting 'dishonourably' around her are not people she would choose to associate with. While she has a flaring temper, things never come to blows--it's easier for her to settle things with a game of Go, since she usually wins and won't have to exert herself. Unfortunately...Leiko hasn't yet figured out that not everyone plays. Prior to her meeting Fujiwara no Sai, she had little motivation for anything at all, and could have been classed as lazy. Since her defeat at his hands, she has remained lazy in the physical sphere. She hates fighting, though it has to do with her -involvement- rather than any moral standpoint. She is more than happy to direct fighters from a non-combatant position, as fits with her idea of her 'station'. This doesn't always work though, because she cannot cope when someone challenges her authority. She is the Taiyoukai by birthright, and subconciously wonders if she is truly the best person for the job. Not that she would -ever- admit to that, even to herself. She comes off as a control freak, but the truth of the matter is that it shakes her faith in herself when someone questions her. •POWERS/ABILITIES ☆ Endurance: Leiko has a higher than human endurance by virtue of being a demon. She can last much longer than a human would in situations that a human could survive. In 'super human' situations, her endurance is more limited. Fox Fire: Leiko has innate powers of fire and illusion, known as fox fire. She can call forth small flames, handle fire without being burned, or create illusions. The more detailed the illusion, the more focus it takes, and massive illusions will also drain her stamina. Fox Morph: Leiko's Youkai abilities include being able to morph into a large fox, approximately ten feet at the shoulder, with a powerful bite and paws that can crush; or a small arctic fox with only a red star on her head and her three tails to mark her as an unnatural creature. In both forms, she is unable to speak in a recognizable language or recognize colors, and her field of vision is shortened. However, her mind remains the same in -all- her forms. Go Mastery: Leiko has been studying Go for five hundred years. She is the equivalent of a Grand master in Chess--beatable of course, but it would be very difficult. Speed: Demons are faster than humans. Leiko is no exception. Her reflexes are catlike. She can run faster than is possible a human, but this is subject to her endurance. Strategist: Studying Go has practical applications, namely the ability to analyze the situation, predict, and plan ahead. Through studying the strategy of Go, she has made the transition to strategy in other situations, such as war and battle. Strength: Being a demon, Leiko is stronger than the average human, though she is weak for a demon. She could uproot a tree with her bare hands, but it would take her several minutes of struggling with it. She cannot pick up anything she cannot get a solid grip on. Yoki: A demon's yoki is a powerful psychic presence that has many, many applications. At its most inert, it can be described simply as an aura. But depending on how it is focused, it can be quieted down that only psychics will sense it, or flared up powerfully to bear down on a target, psychic or not. It is subject to her emotions and her unconcious thoughts. It is completely invisible, and technically intangible. But directed with enough force, it can become an all but tangible presence. It gives away her general location and gives her away as a demon to anyone with sense abilities. | ||
